Mercury - a Toxic Timebomb

Mercury - A Toxic Timebomb

Scared of going to the dentist?
You should be, but not because of the drill
But because what they put in your teeth
Can make you very ill

Silver mercury amalgam
Is what they like to use
A highly toxic poison
That you would never choose

If you ask about the safety
They will simply say
(With a reassuring smile)
"There's no proof either way."

Now I have to say I'm curious,
How come the 'Powers That Be'
(The Government Agency, DEFRA)
Can say: "Don't touch mercury!"

To clear a broken lightbulb
You must open the windows wide
Don't breathe it in or get it on your skin
But seal it in a bag outside

Because mercury is "Hazardous waste
And should not be put in the bin."
They say: "No amount is good for you,"
SO WHY LET DENTISTS PUT IT IN?!

Any contact can make you sick
And workers in China are dying
Of exposure to poisonous mercury
making the lightbulbs we're buying

Mercury's a toxic timebomb
So if you've got any in your head
Go to a mercury-free dentist
Who'll put white fillings in instead!

Your smile will be much brighter
And your health much better too,
And avoid mercury lightbulbs ~
Don't let people die for you

Where's the Money, Honey?

"Where's the money, Honey?"
Is what you've got to ask
Before you even sit down
And start another task

Don't say "Maybe, Baby!"
'cos being vague's no good
you need to know if you want to grow
and get out of the wood

You can dare if you're aware
to spread your wings and fly
but take care of the small stuff
or your plans will crash and die

So being specific's terrific
right down to the very last coin
you can tell when a job's done well
'cos others will want to join

So ask: "Where's the money, Honey?"
'Cos if you can find a way
to get paid for what you love doing
you can do it every day.

This poem was inspired by the usual comment from my mentor, Roger Lowrey, every time I come up with another good idea! "WHERE'S THE MONEY IN IT?!"

Mercury Madness

Mercury makes you mad, they say,
and I am mad as hell
at the dentists who still use it
in the fillings that they sell

I'm mad as hell at the dentist
who poisoned me for years
telling me it was safe
and allaying all my fears

Two suspected heart attacks
extreme exhaustion and fatigue
memory fog and more besides
is what it did to me

MS, ME and chest pains
and many other ills
can be caused by what the dentist
puts in the teeth he fills

'Cos Mercury's a known poison
so if your health's in doubt
and you've got a mouthful of it
then get those fillings out!

Not by a standard dentist, though,
but one that's Mercury free
you want to be quite sure
that it's done properly

So before you take medication
for any of your ills
get checked for metal poisoning
don't just opt for pills

Sort the source, not the problem
and look after yourself well
and eradicate any toxins
'cos being ill is hell!!!

A Life in Verse ..

A life in verse - after all, we all live in the Uni-verse!!

I have had a fun afternoon today, posing for pictures for the local paper for an article they are writing about me and my poems. I felt like one of those lovely models, you know, when they say things like, "Look up ... face this way, smile, etc." Unfortunately I don't look like one so might have to borrow an airbrush.... haha. Let's hope the lens was sympathetic, eh!

If you'd like to read one of my latest poems, here it is: (PS if you are sharing this around, please keep my name and details on it. If you want to reproduce it anywhere, please ask first.)

SLUSH by Carol Pool
Slush is snow that's lost its glow
it's grey instead of white
and unlike when it first arrived
doesn't sparkle in the light

Slush is snow that's like Playdough
that's been moulded by many hands
and snowman, sleighs and snowballs
brought fun across the land

Slush is snow the wind can't blow
it's dirty, watery ice
it makes a really awful mess
and isn't very nice

Slush is snow that's started to go
to make way for better weather
but it brought unity to community
and people did things together

Snow's become slush that's in a rush
to get to the lakes and rivers
and we're all glad to see it go
'cos we tired of having the shivers!
